After indulging on Mexican food and cookie cake and ice cream for my 23rd birthday last night, I really needed to hit the gym. But it's ok because everything is fine in moderation, that's why I'm handing off all the left over cookie cake to my 4 year old niece (sorry big sister, you'll have an energetic one!).
Today I got to work with a different trainer than usual, Dane! But don't worry....he worked me just as hard as I have been. It was awesome to get more tips and advice. They're all so knowledgeable there that seriously, any advice is good advice!
What he had me do was something called TRX. If you're like me and have no idea what that is, or think they misspelled the delicious sugary fruity cereal, TRIX, I'll explain it to you. What it is is suspension training. Sounds scary right? It really isn't, but it hurts.
There were bands hanging and what I had to do was do exercises that worked tons of different muscles. My abs, my glutes, my hamstrings, my shoulders, and basically any muscle I didn't know that I already had.
Dane had me do things like one legged squats, rows, planks, something like a wall pushup using the bands. And it's not as easy as it looks! When looking at it you think well that doesn't look hard, I just strap my feet into it and go. Easy. Ummm no. It's hard. BUT you're using SO many more muscles than you normally would, so you're getting more out of it.
You're able to really engage your core in all of it, which is a spot that most people (me included) want to work on and hate the most on our bodies.
If you have the opportunity to try a TRX workout---do it! It is a little intimidating at first, and I know I'll be sore tomorrow but it's awesome. It uses so many muscles that I know it'll be worth the pain tomorrow!
