Appleton East first baseman Marissa Michalkiewicz was named the top senior infielder/catcher by the Wisconsin Softball Coaches Association.
Michalkiewicz led the Patriots to their fifth straight Division 1 state tournament appearance this season. Michakiewicz hit .489 this season with 15 extra base hits, including three home runs.
East (24-5) won the Fox Valley Association and reached the state semifinals before losing to eventual state champion Chippewa Falls, 1-0. At the state tournament, Michalkiewicz was 2-for-6 with a triple.
Michalkiewicz is not done playing softball as next season she will play for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Other nominees for the award were Bay Port’s Lindsey Luedke and Sheboygan North’s Morgan Parise.
