The WIAA released its Division 1 softball brackets Thursday and Appleton East and Oshkosh West were each awarded No. 1 seeds, while Green Bay Preble and Kaukauna were each seeded No. 2.
West leads East by one game in the Fox Valley Association, and is seeded in the same half of a sectional with Kaukauna, which is 13-10 overall. If seeds hold, West and Kaukauna would meet in a sectional final. West beat Kaukauna twice this season by scores of 4-3 and 3-2.
Meanwhile, Preble (15-1), which lost to Bay Port, 1-0, earlier this season, leads Bay Port (11-1) in the Fox River Classic Conference and would meet East in a sectional final if seeds hold. Bay Port and East met last year in a sectional final with East winning.
East had made five straight trips to the state tournament.
However, this sectional looks stacked with Bay Conference champ Hortonville (14-2) seeded third and Bay Port No. 4 despite losing one game this season.
The postseason starts Thursday for Divisions 2-4, as those brackets were released last week, and Division 1 will begin on Tuesday.
